Hiltrud Von Brandt collection of Carl Blumner letters, 1836- 1906.

Summary: Collection consists primarily of photocopies, German typescripts, and typed English translations of letters from Carl Blumner to his mother Johanna Blumner and his sister Johanne in Prussia concerning the activities of Carl and his brother Augustus in Santa Fe. Carl Blumner was a merchant in Santa Fe and also served at various times as Territorial Treasurer, Territorial Marshal, and a U.S. Revenue Collector. Letters include descriptions of the Chimayo revolt of 1837-38 in which Governor Albino Perez and others were killed; social life and customs in Santa Fe and New Mexico; and trade on the Santa Fe Trail. Collection also includes genealogies of the Blumner family, and an obituary of Carl Blumner.
